What does Eco-friendly therapist mean?
As an eco-friendly therapist, I am committed to minimising the environmental impact of my practice. I use natural, sustainably sourced products such as beeswax candles and eco-conscious oils and creams during treatments. I kindly ask clients to bring their own towels and a pair of socks to each session, which helps reduce unnecessary laundry and single-use items. I also choose recyclable or biodegradable packaging wherever possible and keep energy use to a minimum. These small, mindful choices allow me to offer high-quality holistic care while respecting and protecting our environment.
Is Reflexology suitable for everyone?
Reflexology is suitable for most people of all ages. However, there are certain conditions where treatment may need to be adapted or avoided. During your initial consultation, I will review your medical history to ensure reflexology is safe and appropriate for you. If you have any specific health concerns, please discuss them with me before booking.
Is Reflexology safe during pregnancy?
Yes, reflexology is safe during pregnancy when performed by a trained maternity reflexologist. I hold advanced maternity reflexology qualifications and tailor each session to the specific stage of your pregnancy. Maternity reflexology uses adapted techniques and avoids certain reflex points during the first trimester. Always inform me of your pregnancy stage when booking.
Which pregnancy ailments Reflexology may help with?
Maternity reflexology may help with a range of pregnancy-related ailments including morning sickness, back pain, sciatica, swollen ankles, heartburn, constipation, insomnia, anxiety, pelvic girdle pain, and general fatigue. It can also support preparation for labour and postnatal recovery. Every pregnancy is unique, and sessions are tailored to your individual needs.
Are there any contraindications?
Certain conditions may require medical clearance before treatment, including deep vein thrombosis (DVT), unstable blood pressure, recent surgery, acute infections, fever, or certain skin conditions affecting the feet or face. If you are undergoing treatment for a serious medical condition, please consult your GP before booking. I will discuss any concerns during your initial consultation.
Do I need to have a reason for booking Reflexology?
Not at all. Many clients book reflexology simply for relaxation and general wellbeing. You do not need to have a specific health concern. Reflexology is a wonderful way to manage everyday stress, maintain balance in the body, and invest in your overall health. Think of it as dedicated time for your body to reset and recharge.
What happens during a Reflexology session?
Your first session begins with a consultation where we discuss your health history, lifestyle, and goals. You will then relax in a comfortable reclining chair, fully clothed, with only your feet or face exposed. I apply specific pressure techniques to reflex points, and the session typically feels deeply relaxing. Afterwards, we discuss any findings and I may suggest a treatment plan tailored to your needs.
What aftercare tips should I follow?
Hydrate well, eat light, and take plenty of rest including naps if you start to feel overly sleepy. Avoid stimulants such as caffeine, alcohol, and tobacco. Allow 24 to 48 hours for your body to process the treatment’s effects. You may experience what is known as a healing response, which is a positive sign that your body is rebalancing.
How many sessions, or how often should I have Reflexology?
This depends on your individual needs and goals. For acute or specific concerns, a course of 4 to 6 weekly sessions is often recommended to begin with. For general maintenance and wellbeing, monthly sessions work well. During pregnancy, fortnightly sessions are common. I will suggest a personalised plan during your initial appointment.
Can I cancel or rearrange my appointment?
Yes. I kindly ask for at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or rearrange your appointment. Late cancellations or missed appointments may be subject to a fee. Please contact me directly by phone, email, or WhatsApp to make any changes.
What should I wear or bring with me?
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. For foot reflexology, you will only need to remove your shoes and socks. For facial reflexology, it is best to arrive with a clean face, free of heavy makeup. There is no need to bring anything specific — just yourself and an open mind.
What is a Healing Crisis?
A healing crisis, also known as a healing response, is a temporary reaction that some people experience after treatment. It can include tiredness, increased urination, mild headache, or emotional release. This is a positive sign that your body is detoxifying and rebalancing. Symptoms are usually mild and pass within 24 to 48 hours. Staying hydrated and resting will help your body process these effects.
Is it painful?
Reflexology should not be painful. You may feel areas of sensitivity or tenderness on certain reflex points, which can indicate areas of imbalance in the body. I always work within your comfort level and adjust pressure accordingly. Most clients find the experience deeply relaxing and pleasant.
Is it tickly?
Most people find that the firm, purposeful pressure used in reflexology does not feel ticklish. If you are particularly sensitive, I will adjust my technique. Once the session begins, most clients find the initial sensitivity settles quickly and they can relax fully.
Is Reflexology a foot massage?
No. While reflexology involves working on the feet, it is not a massage. Reflexology is a precise therapeutic technique that applies pressure to specific reflex points corresponding to organs and systems of the body. The aim is to stimulate the body’s natural healing processes and restore balance, rather than simply to relax the muscles of the feet.
Can you tell what is wrong with me?
Reflexology is not a diagnostic tool and I cannot diagnose medical conditions. However, during a session I may notice areas of sensitivity or congestion in certain reflex points, which can indicate imbalances in the corresponding areas of the body. I will share any observations with you and, if appropriate, suggest you consult your GP for further investigation.
I have skin problems, can I still book a treatment?
In most cases, yes. Minor skin conditions usually do not prevent treatment. However, if there is a contagious skin condition, open wounds, or severe irritation on the treatment area, we may need to postpone or adapt the session. Please let me know about any skin concerns when booking so I can advise accordingly.
Does Reflexology ease pain?
Many clients report a reduction in pain following reflexology sessions. By improving circulation, reducing tension, and stimulating the body’s natural pain-relief mechanisms, reflexology can help manage chronic pain, headaches, migraines, and musculoskeletal discomfort. Results vary between individuals, and a course of treatments is often recommended for best results.
Does Reflexology help with trauma or PTSD?
Reflexology can be a supportive complementary therapy for those experiencing trauma or PTSD. The deeply calming nature of treatment helps activate the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting relaxation and a sense of safety. Techniques such as Butterfly Touch are specifically designed for trauma-sensitive work. Reflexology works alongside, not in place of, professional mental health support.
Does Reflexology improve sleep or enhance energy levels?
Yes, many clients experience significant improvements in sleep quality and energy levels after reflexology. By reducing stress, calming the nervous system, and promoting the body’s natural balance, reflexology can help establish healthier sleep patterns and reduce fatigue. Regular sessions often lead to sustained improvements over time.
Does Reflexology ease hormonal imbalance?
Reflexology may help support hormonal balance by stimulating reflex points related to the endocrine system, including the pituitary, thyroid, and adrenal glands, as well as the reproductive organs. Many clients find it beneficial for managing PMS, menstrual irregularities, fertility support, and menopausal symptoms. It works best as part of a holistic approach to health.
Does Reflexology ease menopausal symptoms?
Many women find reflexology helpful in managing menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes, night sweats, mood swings, anxiety, insomnia, and fatigue. By working the endocrine reflex points, reflexology aims to support the body’s hormonal transition naturally. Regular sessions can provide ongoing relief and a sense of calm during this stage of life.
Can I buy a gift voucher?
Yes, gift vouchers are available for all treatments and packages. They make a thoughtful and unique gift for someone special. Please contact me by phone, email, or WhatsApp to arrange a gift voucher, and I will be happy to help.
